One of God of War (2018)’s greatest mysteries has finally been solved: the meaning behind the World Serpent’s speech. The lines of Jörmungandr, the colossal serpent, were never translated in the game — but thanks to a leaked script from the reboot, fans have finally uncovered what he was saying to Atreus, Mimir, and Kratos.
YouTuber Kaptain Kuba analyzed the leaked script in detail and found complete dialogue exchanges with Jörmungandr. According to the discovery, Santa Monica Studio never planned to subtitle the Serpent’s speech, keeping it a mystery for players — yet internally, the developers wrote full translations for reference. As it turns out, the Serpent’s words weren’t just random sounds. He calls Atreus “little god,” speaks of a sacrifice of the axe, mocks Mimir’s decapitated head, and even offers useful guidance.
Here are a few of the translated lines:
Mooooon-veeeee-taaaaah. Thaaaaaw-toooool Teeeeer.
Gooooo-thooooo-leeeeet, air-fooooo-thoooo.
Keh-naw-nooooo. Gooooo-thooooo seh-nooooo.
