AMD is preparing to take an unprecedented step that could disrupt the graphics card market. According to industry insiders and Chinese sources, the RDNA 4-powered Radeon RX 9070 lineup, slated for a March release, will not only deliver better performance but also feature aggressive pricing designed to challenge both NVIDIA and AMD’s own GPUs.
As reported by ITHome, citing forum discussions on Bobantang, AMD is expected to price the flagship RX 9070 XT at around $599—$150 less than NVIDIA’s anticipated RTX 5070 Ti ($749). The base model will be even cheaper, undercutting the XT version by another $100. However, the biggest surprise is AMD’s strategy of directly replacing its own RX 7800 XT, which, according to rumors, may be phased out earlier than planned.
Insiders, including well-known leaker Moore’s Law is Dead, claim that in 4K gaming (without ray tracing), the RX 9070 XT will outperform the RTX 5070 Ti by 12–15%. Meanwhile, AMD is doubling down on ray tracing improvements and its AI-powered FSR 4 upscaling, set to rival NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.
AMD’s decision to price the RX 9070 series below market expectations is a bold gamble. On one hand, it could pressure NVIDIA into adjusting its strategy. On the other, it risks cannibalizing sales of the RX 7800 XT, which has been considered a sweet spot at $499.
For now, AMD remains tight-lipped, but one thing is clear: the battle for the mid-range GPU market is heating up. The real test will come in March, when benchmarks and gamers deliver the final verdict.
