AION 2 is an MMORPG from NCSOFT and a sequel to Aion, centered on the war between Atreia's two factions: the light-aligned Elyos and the dark-aligned Asmodians. The game launched in Korea and Taiwan on November 19, 2025. The global version entered Early Access on Steam and PURPLE on September 30, 2026 for Founder's Pack owners, followed by the free full launch on October 5.

The game has 8 classes available to both factions, and the level cap on global servers is 45. Reaching the cap is relatively quick and essentially serves as a tutorial. The real game, including gear progression, dungeons, and PvP, begins at level 45.

In this guide, we'll explain how to reach level 45 as quickly as possible and what you should keep in mind while leveling.

Quick Guide: How to Level Up

The fastest route to level 45 is to follow the yellow Episode questline and do almost nothing else. The main story provides 97% of the XP needed to reach 45 for Elyos and 99% for Asmodians, while Sealed Dungeons along the way cover the rest.

  • Time: 3-4 hours if you know the route. The speedrun record is 3 h 21 min. Expect 4-6 hours on your first run or 8-10+ hours if you complete all side content.
  • Main rule: follow the story, clear Sealed Dungeons that are directly on your route, and only take green quests when they are on the way or reward accessories.
  • Do not spend: Odyle Energy, Shugo Festival keys, or large amounts of Enhance Stones and Kina on heavily upgrading temporary gear.
  • Minimum first-day goal: reach level 22, when Odyle Energy starts accumulating.

Level 45 is the cap on global servers during the first season. The Chapter 1 update raised the cap to 50 on Korean servers, so the global version will likely receive the same increase later.

How Leveling Works

The XP curve gets very steep. Reaching level 45 from level 1 requires 754.8 million XP, and more than two thirds of that is needed for levels 40-45. Level 44 alone requires around 161 million XP. The first 30 levels fly by, while the last five make up most of the climb.

Almost all of your XP comes from Episode quests. Regional quests, marked in green, provide less than 2% of the XP needed before level 45, so it is more efficient to complete them after hitting the cap. At level 45, 31 Regional quests provide around 100 million XP, roughly half of the level 45 XP bar.

The biggest gap is between levels 30 and 39. Here, the story only provides around 70% of the XP you need. Sealed Dungeons fill that gap: at level 35, their exploration record rewards around 1.4-2.8 million XP, equal to roughly 7-15% of a level.

The story also includes Ascension quests that require you to fill a progress bar through side activities. Whenever the main quest stops at one of these bars, complete Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and green quests. Around five activities are usually enough.

Level 1-45 Route by Stage

We've divided the route to level 45 into five stages.

Levels 1-9: Tutorial (~20 Minutes)

Only follow the story. Elyos unlock wings at level 5, while Asmodians get them at level 6.

Levels 10-16: Entering the Main Zone

Follow the story and clear Sealed Dungeons if they are directly on your route. Your skills reach level 8 during this section, so spend your points immediately.

Levels 17-21: The One Point Where Green Quests Are Worth Doing

On the Asmodian route, clear all green quests in Safe Haven, then go to Silent Hill for the story plus 4 Sealed Dungeons. After that, return to Safe Haven and turn everything in. Before leaving, equip all your accessories, enhance them to +5, and equip the Smite title, which gives you a chance to deal double damage.

Levels 22-32: Stigmas, Energy, and Your First Rune

Follow the story and clear the last three Sealed Dungeons available before level 45. Do not skip them. Activate every Kisk and Kibelisk you pass. Stigmas unlock at level 22, and Odyle Energy starts accumulating. After getting the wings from Urugugu Canyon at level 32:

  • Teleport to Nornir Assembly and head left to start Hugo Mercs pt.2.
  • Teleport to Abandoned Site and complete the Regional quest to receive Rune 1.
  • Equip the rune and enhance it to +1.

Levels 33-45: Follow the Main Story

Only take green quests when they overlap with your route. After the third Ascension, The One Who Dreams, pick up Hugo Mercs pt.3 in Briskwind Shelter to get Rune 2. Then continue the story straight to level 45.

Kisks for Levels 33-45 (Asmodians) That Save the Most Time

These fast-travel points are especially useful for quick leveling:

  • Amunta's Hideout: during Powder of Death, after defeating 5 Insectoids and recovering 2 Lost Bags.
  • Idun's Lake: during Lake of Confrontation. After searching the Blades Supply Storage, go through the door and fly east into the fog.
  • Steel Hammer Temporary Trading Post: during An Ill Fate's Resolution. Before diving into the lake, fly over it first.
  • Kumrica's Cellar: during Daybreak Society Rescue, after talking to Nemon about distracting the Black Claw soldiers.
  • Impetusium Lower Path, on the southern side: during the same quest, after the tree instance when the quest sends you back to Nemon.

Elyos Story Checkpoints

Key checkpoints while progressing through the Elyos story:

  • 10: Dawn Legion.
  • 20: Fortress Ruins Infiltration.
  • 21: Kaisinel's Seal.
  • 37: Fire Temple Expedition.
  • 40: Where the Drana Flows.
  • 45: finale with Diverging Paths and Draupnir.

Asmodian Story Checkpoints

Key checkpoints while progressing through the Asmodian story:

  • 10: Finding Nemon.
  • 20: Imminent Threat.
  • 29: Land of Rifts.
  • 44: The High Priest Awakens.
  • 45: finale with Zikel's Core and Farewells.

Zones by Level

Both factions follow the same basic structure: a starting map for levels 1-9, followed by one large map that takes you to 45. The story naturally leads you through these areas. The list below is mainly useful for knowing where to look for Sealed Dungeons at your level. The ranges are based on enemy levels in each zone.

Game map
Game map

Elyos: Poeta and Verteron

Level ranges for Elyos zones:

  • 1-9: Poeta: Daminu Forest, Clione Lake, Phoenix Sky Island.
  • 10-13: Western Cantas Valley and Eastern Cantas Valley.
  • 14-18: Ellun River Marsh, Spirit's Rest, Anguish Hill.
  • 19-22: Verteron Fortress Ruins, Destroyed Abyss Gate.
  • 23-31: Tolbas Forest, Pilgrim's Ridge, Forest of Exiles, Aullaeu Village.
  • 32-38: Altamia Canyon, Altamia Highlands, Rock Tomb Hill.
  • 39-42: Kraka Footpath, Drana areas, Scarlet Forest.
  • 43-45: Nahid Brigade Fortress, Garden of the Illusion God.

Asmodians: Ishalgen and Altgard

Level ranges for Asmodian zones:

  • 1-9: Ishalgen: Munihelle Forest, Tunapre Lake, Anturn Cliff.
  • 10-14: Dredgion Crash Site, Calderon Canyon, Nameless Cemetery.
  • 15-21: Silent Hill, Sanctum Outpost, Tranein Highland, Moslan Forest.
  • 22-28: Uruthumheim, Purifying Forest.
  • 29-32: Dranactus.
  • 32-35: Battlescar Mound, Basfelt Ruins.
  • 35-40: Fafnite Deposit, Gribade Highland, Idun's Lake.
  • 41-45: Black Claw Village, Lagta Fortress, Impetusium Square.

Sealed Dungeons and Expeditions

Sealed Dungeons are the best side activity to complete while leveling. Each faction map contains 61 of them covering levels 10-45. Clear them while you are already in the area instead of returning later just for the dungeon.

First-Clear Rewards on Your Faction Map

The first-clear rewards for a Sealed Dungeon are:

  • 15,000 Kina.
  • 1,250 Enhance Stones.
  • 2 Daevanion Crystals, worth 2 Daevanion Points.
  • 2 Wisdom Stones, worth 2 Skill Points.
  • A title.
  • 2 Sealed Wing Featherdown and 2 Statue Scraps.

For comparison, a green quest only gives 1 Skill Point and 1 Daevanion Point.

Expeditions
Expeditions

Where to Start

These Sealed Dungeons and Expeditions are worth prioritizing:

  • Poacher's Den: Elyos, level 10.
  • Fortress Jail: Elyos, level 20, directly on the main story route.
  • Kraka's Altar: Elyos, level 30.
  • Abandoned Memorial Room: Asmodians, level 20.
  • Drana Depository: Asmodians, level 25.

Complete story Expeditions, but do not open the reward cube. The story progresses even if you leave it unopened, and claiming it costs Odyle Energy that is better saved for Conquest Expeditions at level 45. The gear from these cubes is replaced quickly because the final story quests award level 45 weapons. All four Exploration modes can be completed solo.

  • Krao Cave: unlocks at level 20, requires Item Level 200, cube costs 20 Energy.
  • Urugugu Canyon: level 28, requires Item Level 300, cube costs 20 Energy.
  • Fire Temple: level 35, requires Item Level 500, cube costs 30 Energy.
  • Draupnir: level 45, requires Item Level 700, cube costs 40 Energy.

Odyle Energy regenerates by 15 every 3 hours, or 120 per day. The cap is 560 without Membership and 840 with Membership.

Skills, Stigmas, and Daevanion

Spend your points immediately. Unused Skill Points and Daevanion Points provide no benefit. They are the main source of power while leveling and matter more than gear enhancement.

Skills

Choose one or two primary damage skills in advance and level them first. AION 2 concentrates a large share of each class's damage in only a handful of abilities. On the Korean build, more than 60% of a Gladiator's damage comes from Overhead Slam, while Judgment fills a similar role for the Templar. Skill-level thresholds unlock specialization perks:

  • Level 8: three perks and one slot.
  • Level 12: fourth perk and second slot.
  • Level 16: final perk.
  • Level 20: third slot.

All basic skills are unlocked by level 25.

Skills
Skills

Stigmas

Stigmas unlock at level 22, giving you access to all 13 Stigmas for your class at once. Slots unlock at levels 22, 27, 32, and 37. Fill every slot as soon as it becomes available. A new Stigma is usually more valuable than a couple of extra levels in a basic skill.

Stigmas
Stigmas

Daevanion Board

Daevanion Boards unlock at the following levels:

  • 12: Nezekan.
  • 20: Zikel.
  • 30: Vaizel.
  • 40: Triniel.
  • 45: Azphel, which uses a separate point pool.

Do not fully complete one board before moving to the next. The first four share the same pool of points. On each board, prioritize levels for your main skill, shown as circular nodes, your class damage passive, and major damage-boost nodes. Skip Critical Damage Boost for now because you have very little Critical at this stage. Resetting is almost free, so mistakes are easy to fix.

Class

If you still have not chosen a class, Gladiator and Ranger are the fastest solo clearers, while Cleric is the safest thanks to its healing. For a detailed breakdown of each archetype's strengths and weaknesses, see our AION 2 class tier list for PvE and PvP. However, the level 1-45 journey is too short to justify abandoning your favorite class just to save a few minutes.

Gear: What to Use and What to Save

Leveling gear is temporary. Common gear caps at Item Level 20, Rare gear at 35, and Epic gear at 45. Do not invest heavily in enhancement. +5 is enough, just like on the speedrun route. Enhance Stones are returned when dismantling gear, but Kina is not.

Understanding gear progression

What to Get

Prioritize the following gear:

  • Green quests that reward accessories: Pilgrim and Liberator rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets at Item Level 43. These are the easiest way to raise your Item Level enough for late-game Expeditions.
  • Clash Rune Chests from quests: open them and equip both runes. Each adds 40 Item Levels.

What to Skip and What to Save

Here is what you can skip or save for later.

  • Do not open Expedition cubes. Odyle Energy is more valuable for Conquest at level 45.
  • Save Shugo Festival keys. Rewards scale with your level, so spend them at 45.
  • Do not waste time specifically farming Empyrean Traces. Pick them up when they are on your route and leave the full sweep for level 45. The traces feed into the Monolith, and its progress is shared across characters on the same server.
  • Do not enhance gear beyond +5. You will replace it within a few levels.
  • Sell level 35 and 45 gold gear. During the first few days, most players are short on Kina, so these items can sell for high prices. Trading on the market requires Membership.

What to Do During Downtime (Respawns, Cutscenes, Waiting for a Group)

Use downtime for these tasks, in this order:

  1. Enhance your weapon to +5.
  2. Enhance accessories to +5.
  3. Spend Daevanion Points.
  4. Level your main skills.
  5. Set up Stigmas.
  6. Equip your best title.
  7. Claim achievement rewards.

Checklist

Leveling checklist for reaching 45:

  • Reach at least level 22 on your first day so Odyle Energy starts accumulating.
  • Follow yellow Episode quests in order.
  • Clear level-appropriate Sealed Dungeons along the way, especially from levels 30-39.
  • At levels 17-21, collect accessories, enhance them to +5, and equip the Smite title.
  • Activate every Kisk and Kibelisk.
  • Spend Skill Points and Daevanion Points immediately, and fill Stigma slots as soon as they unlock.
  • Get Rune 1 after Urugugu Canyon at around level 32 and Rune 2 after the third Ascension.
  • Complete Expeditions, but do not open their cubes.
  • Use a mount everywhere. Mounts work in every zone.

What to Do at Level 45

At level 45, leveling ends and the Item Level grind begins. The two nearest progression walls are Draupnir Exploration at Item Level 700 and the entrance to the Abyss, Chaotic Lower Reshanta, at Item Level 1000. Beyond them are the final story quests and an Ascension quest that rewards long-term wrist and bracelet gear.

  1. Clear any Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and Regional quests you skipped. Every spent Daevanion Point increases your Item Level, while Regional quests provide around 100 million XP.
  2. Enhance both runes to +1 and equip all quest accessories.
  3. The level 45 story belt and amulet use their own enhancement scrolls. The belt scrolls come from Strongholds, while the amulet scrolls come from trading Empyrean Traces at the Monolith. Do not spend Enhance Stones on them.
  4. Use a Spacetime Rift to visit the other faction's map and complete side quests there. You get one hour on the other side.
  5. Start daily Duty Quests and Conquest Expeditions using the Odyle Energy you saved. Once you reach Item Level 1600, move on to the first floor of Transcendence.
