Rootbound Announced — Action Adventure Game From The Creators Of Gothic, Risen And Elex

Despite the closure of Piranha Bytes last year, the studio's veterans are not sitting idle. Former developers of Gothic, Risen and Elex founded the studio Brainlag Games and presented their new project.

Rootbound is a physics-based adventure action game about a sentient tree that is trying to save its home from a mysterious disease. In a destroyed world, the player will face bosses, lost souls, mysterious puzzles and secrets of a forgotten civilization. A magical backpack will become a companion on the journey.

The game is planned to be released in 2026. The Rootbound page has already appeared on Steam — the project can be added to the wishlist.

Despite the closure, the legacy of Piranha Bytes lives on — a demo of Gothic 1 Remake from Alkimia Interactive was recently released. We have already tried the prologue and shared our opinion in a fresh review.
