Nightdive Studios Calls System Shock 3 Development Situation «Very Complicated»

With the upcoming release of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, Nightdive Studios employees were asked about the situation with the third installment. Recall that back in 2020, System Shock 3 suddenly lost its entire development team that had been working on the game for five years.

Currently, Tencent owns the rights to the project, but absolutely nothing is known about the development so far. In this regard, VGC requested information from Nightdive, the studio that made the remasters of the first two parts. As expected, third-party developers are not aware of the situation with System Shock 3, but there is a small hope.

The situation around System Shock 3 is very complicated... Not as yet, not as yet. I don’t know when it’s going to clarify, but it could potentially be within a year. It could be, or it could take longer. That said, what I can say is that we have visions of what we can do within what we control.
— Nightdive’s director of business development Larry Kuperman

Nightdive Studios itself is preparing for the release of the System Shock 2 remaster. The game will receive improved graphics, reworked models and animations, optimization for modern devices and mod support. The project will be released on June 26 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.

Earlier, the developers of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster showed how the graphics have changed compared to the original from 1999.
