Alpha Mission 2 is a vertically scrolling shooter about a fighter spacecraft battling enemy forces and hazards. Its laser attacks target airborne enemies, while missiles strike ground targets; destroying drones yields power-ups that can increase the strength of both weapons up to four times.
Power Weapons become available after collecting three pieces of armour of the same type or spending credits earned after a stage. Their energy supply decreases when they are used or when the ship takes damage, and can be replenished with E power-ups. The game has seven stages, with mid-bosses appearing along the way. Bosses must be defeated by destroying their weak points and individual parts.
