An isometric action RPG with roguelike elements, A Wizard's Lizard follows a wizard’s loyal pet lizard on a quest to rescue its master in Amberfall. After the wizard unlocks the secret of eternal life, Death comes for him, and the lizard must fight through procedurally generated dungeons filled with evil creatures.

Combat features movement and attacks in every direction, while dungeon runs yield weapons, items, and treasure. Death does not end the journey: the realm of the dead holds secrets and items available only after dying, and resurrection lets the adventure continue. Rescuing townsfolk helps rebuild the town, where the blacksmith can craft weapons and armor from discovered blueprints. Recovered artifacts and legendary equipment are returned to the museum.
