This hockey management simulation puts the player in charge of a club competing in leagues around the world. Franchise Hockey Manager 4 offers a choice of 24 leagues, the option to create a custom hockey universe, and historical NHL start dates reaching back to 1917. Team rosters are based on the 2017–18 season and player research.

The player manages club finances and the salary cap, hires staff, signs free agents, makes trades, and selects prospects in the draft. League settings can be customized, including the number of teams, conferences, and divisions, as well as the schedule length. Challenge Mode and 30 historical scenarios based on NHL teams provide additional management tests.
