This squad-based role-playing game is set in a post-apocalyptic Sweden, where inhabitants scavenge overgrown ruins for technological artifacts. Three factions vie for control of the caves and tunnels beneath an impact site known as the Krater. The player arrives with a team of freelancers to take part in the gold rush.

The squad explores an open world, completes quests, ventures into randomized dungeons, fights enemies and gathers loot. Real-time combat and tactical squad management are viewed from above, while crafting lets players make items, weapons, gear and abilities. Characters gain levels and new abilities, but can also suffer permanent injuries or die. The campaign can be played solo, while dedicated co-op missions feature bosses designed for group play.
