Mega Man 5 is a futuristic action platformer in which Mega Man confronts his brother Proto Man, who appears to be leading attacks on the world and has kidnapped Dr. Light. With support from the scientist Dr. Cossack, Mega Man sets out to stop the robots and uncover what happened.
The game retains the visual style and action-platforming gameplay of its predecessors: Mega Man fights enemies and makes his way through levels to rescue Dr. Light. A new ally, the robotic bird Beat, can be used as a weapon after eight collectible letters have been found.
