ModNation Racers — the game is a simulator of kart racing, with the ability to use weapons against your opponents. Players are able to perform tricks, drifts and hit opponents on the board; successful execution of these techniques fills the acceleration scale. The acceleration scale can be spent on acceleration, protection from opponents' attacks, hitting opponents on the board, and activating devices on the track. On the track there can be accelerators, pots with weapons, devices and bots that attack the racers. By collecting weapon capsules, the player receives one of four types of weapons (missiles, lightning, sound or acceleration), each of which has three levels. Weapons can be used for their intended purpose or as mines.
