This role-playing adventure follows a journey through the Sinnoh region, where the protagonist aims to become the Pokémon League Champion. Pokémon Shining Pearl retells the story of Pokémon Pearl, preserving the scale of the original towns and routes.

At the start, players choose one of three partner Pokémon: Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. Exploring the region brings encounters with Pokémon and battles, and Pokémon Shining Pearl features the Legendary Pokémon Palkia. The game also includes player-friendly conveniences from modern entries in the series and up-close battle scenes.
