An expansion for Quake 2, Ground Zero continues the battle on Stroggos after a marine landing. With the Strogg fleet under siege and only a fraction of the ground forces surviving, the mission shifts from destroying the Big Gun to rescuing comrades and destroying the Gravity Well, a new weapon aimed at humanity.

The expansion adds 14 single-player levels and 10 deathmatch maps. The arsenal includes the Chainsaw, ETF Rifle, and Plasma Beam, while new enemies include the Stalker, turrets, Daedalus, Medic Commander, Carrier, and Black Widow. Deathmatch also features the Vengeance Sphere, Hunter Sphere, and Anti-matter bomb.
