A fantasy role-playing roguelike that combines dungeon crawling with the development of a personal sanctuary, the Wizard Tower. The player explores procedurally generated locations, fights evil minions, avoids traps, solves puzzles, and collects treasure. Dungeons vary from one run to the next, and enemies have distinct abilities as well as different strengths and weaknesses.

Between expeditions, the player can develop the town around the tower, upgrade its vendors, recruit helpers, brew reagents, and craft or buy equipment. The game features six schools of magic, each with upgradeable spells, along with randomized magic items. Equipment can be enchanted to alter the magic it contains, helping the player take on more powerful enemies.
