This third-person fantasy action game follows a Viking warrior battling Loki and his minions as they seek to bring Ragnarok to Midgard. In the single-player campaign, the hero fights in close combat, gathers food to survive, and calls on the gods to imbue weapons with rune powers. Rune Classic adds new enemies and redesigns some levels.

The game also features multiplayer melee battles fought with swords, axes, hammers, and maces. More than 35 levels are available across single-player and multiplayer, with modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Arena, and Headball.
