A role-playing game with strategy elements about the adventures of the swordsman Rance and his loyal companion Sill. After a series of turbulent events on the Continent, the heroes arrive in the eastern land of Nippon, where Rance hopes to relax in the hot springs. But things take an unexpected turn, and before long, he becomes the ruler of one of the local feudal states.
Having gained power, Rance decides not to stop there and launches a campaign to unite Nippon. The road to dominance is full of large-scale battles, political intrigue, and new adventures. His unquenchable thirst for power and habit of getting what he wants at any cost turn the journey into a struggle for control of the entire country.
