Varicella — the game, set in an obscure, nondescript place and time, casts you in the role of Varicella, a palace minister at the Palazzo del Piemonte. Your ambitions: Devise cunning ploys and schemes to eliminate your rivals one by one, all while seeking to gain the position of regent after the mysterious death of the king. Despite a confusing start where you have no idea what's going on or even what you can do, the game gets much better as you explore the palace and talk to the various characters. The game presents quite a challenge because you have to reach your goal within a time limit that is not even obvious at first.
