Baldur's Gate — the action of Baldur's Gate takes place in the fictional universe of Forgotten Realms, and a modified system from the tabletop role-playing game Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition is used as the gameplay mechanics. In Baldur's Gate, the player controls a party of adventurers, the composition of which is determined by the player themselves. The group of characters controlled by the player explores a vast game world, battles the monsters and other enemies that inhabit it, interacts with friendly characters, completes quests, gains experience, and develops by acquiring new skills. The nonlinear plot is based on the confrontation between the main character and the assassin of his adoptive father.
