DEFCON is a real-time strategy game simulating global nuclear war during the Cold War. From an underground bunker, a general must destroy the enemy population while protecting their own. Players position missile silos, submarines and air defenses, then launch nuclear strikes; firing reveals the attackers’ positions and leaves them open to retaliation.

In multiplayer matches, players form tactical alliances that can quickly collapse into betrayal. The score reflects the effectiveness of attacks and losses among a player’s own population, while a real-time counter tracks the death toll. In an all-out nuclear war, the goal is to suffer the fewest losses.
