Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: The Lion's Den Quest Walkthrough

The Lion's Den quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 promises to be one of the most intricate and engaging adventures. You will be serving in King Sigismund's army, investigating a mysterious murder, and making a daring attempt to steal a siege weapon. If you encounter difficulties, use our quest walkthrough guide and learn about the possible branches that may await you.
Consult with Zizka about further steps
Head to the "Devil's Place" and find Zizka. During the daytime, he will be strolling near the tavern or inside the building. If you haven't completed the quest to find the members of Dry Devil's gang earlier, Zizka will send you to finish that quest.
Wait for Shmuel and Colin
If you are doing this quest immediately after completing the previous one, wait until the next morning and approach Zizka again. Choose the dialogue options that are close to you, and you can pass several skill checks. After the conversation, the quest will update.
Meet with Katerina in the camp
Beforehand, you can talk to Jan Ptacek, who is waiting outside by the tavern, to take the additional quest "Like Old Times". In this quest, you need to reach the hunting camp and stealthily eliminate five enemies. For completing the quest, you will receive Jan's personal bow.
Additionally, when you use fast travel to one of the settlements near Sigismund's camp, a random event may activate: a meeting with the knight Jezek. Don't miss it, because if you agree to help the knight, you can start the side quest Lost Honour and enter the camp without hindrance.
Options to activate the quest:
- Talk.
- Skill check (threat, persuasion) or "I don't want to fight you."
- "Robbing people is sinful."
- "Tell me how it was."
- "Very sorry."
- "That was noble."
- "Maybe I can help you."
We recommend completing this quest beforehand, then proceed to the main story quest.
When you're ready, head to the camp, to its northern part. There are baths, find Katerina there. She will offer to be alone, and then there will be a lengthy dialogue where you will learn new information and can flirt with the girl, passing several persuasion checks.
Enlist in the army
The quarter with the baths is patrolled by Stepan Vorona in the evenings. Approach him and have a conversation. You can pass all available skill checks to slightly increase your levels, but he will still refuse to take you into service. In the end, say you want to become a bombardier (if you have enough skill points) or simply that you need money. Either way, the guy will take you to Captain Dietrich Katz.
In the conversation with Katz, choose confident options to increase your reputation and agree to help him retrieve the missing letter.
Talk to Musa
From the conversation with the captain, you will learn that one of his squads has recently gone missing. The soldiers were transporting a valuable letter that needs to be found. However, one of the missing was found, but he is currently unconscious in the infirmary and won't wake up anytime soon.
Go down to the infirmary and talk to the local healer named Musa. Choose restrained options to increase your reputation, then try to pass the "Alchemy" skill check. Musa will say that for your plan, you need to brew a strong "Rooster" potion.
Help the wounded Myshek
As we noted earlier, to get additional information from the wounded fighter, you will have to use the alchemy table and perfectly prepare the potion according to the following recipe:
- Use alcohol as a base.
- Grind two handfuls of mint in a mortar.
- Throw the mint into the cauldron and boil for one turn of the clock.
- Throw a handful of valerian into the pot.
- Boil for two turns of the clock.
- Distill the potion.
Note that if you haven't leveled up the "Alchemy" skill, obtaining a strong potion will be quite difficult. Therefore, you can simply skip this step and immediately go in search of the missing squad. If you try to give Myshek a weak or regular "Rooster" potion, he will die.
Find the missing soldiers
Head to the village of Maleshov or Bilany. From here, it's easiest to reach the farm where the squad is holed up. Upon arriving here, you can encounter two possible outcomes:
- The squad will immediately attack you.
- You can talk to the soldier and say that you are only interested in the letter. In this case, you need to pass a skill check, but if successful, you will receive the key to the painted chest and get the letter. You will also lose some reputation if you tell the captain about this.
We recommend going to the deserters at night. At night, all the soldiers will be asleep, and you won't encounter a patrol, allowing you to take them out one by one. Search the soldiers' pockets and pick up the key to the painted chest. The chest is located in the attic — it is red and to the right of the stairs.
Return to Captain Katz and report the completion of the task. If you dealt with the deserters, you will gain additional reputation in the camp. Also, agree to drink and play dice with the captain. Even if you lose, it will still increase your reputation. After the cutscene, a patrolman will enter the tent and ask Katz to come with him on urgent business.
Search the Place Where Chertan Was Killed
Chertan is the second captain of the three, one of whom you are already familiar with. He was killed near Captain Katz's tent and next to the gunpowder warehouse. After the cutscene, you need to find out what happened here and who is behind the murder attempt.
Immediately inspect the bloody trail at the spot where Chertan lay.
Approach the gunpowder warehouse and examine the lock. Someone tried to break it.
Enter the warehouse with the musket and lower the camera. Investigate the gunpowder scattered everywhere.
Exit the warehouse and inspect the barrel, under which there are traces of blood and a lockpick.
Head towards Chertan's tent (the green tent on the right side) and examine the bloody trough, and under it, the bloody knife. Someone tried to wash away the blood here.
Enter the tent and pick the complex lock on the chest. You will find a promissory note from the third captain named Grozav, who borrowed a large sum of money from Chertan. To count the evidence, read the document in your inventory.
Now you can return to Katz's tent and tell him everything you found. The heroes will head to the field hospital, where Chertan has already died. But he didn't die from his wounds — someone poisoned the wine that Musa usually uses to relieve his patients' pain. Here are the optimal response options:
- Remain silent.
- Remain silent.
- Defend Musa.
During the conversation with Katz in his tent:
- "We must protect Musa."
- "Do you really not know what to do?"
- "The Bathmaid will help us."
Ask Katerina for Help with the Guards
This is an optional task that you can complete as part of the main quest. Go to Katerina and select the option "I need to distract the guards from Musa." But first, the woman will ask you to fulfill her request. This will start the side quest "The Stalker".
Your task is to find the Polovtsian who is disturbing Katerina at night. At the beginning of the quest, you will receive a shoe — give it to the dog so it can pick up the scent and lead you to the Polovtsian's tent. However, you won't be able to meet the man here either day or night.
Take the second shoe and return it to Katerina, then sit on the bench opposite her tent and wait until 02:00 a.m. Around this time, a Polovtsian named Chekan appears in front of her tent. You shouldn't be close to the tent or inside, as the man will notice you and run away. In conversation with him, choose the following options:
- "Leave Katerina alone!"
- Pass a skill check with any skill.
- Offering money is pointless, so if you fail the check, just beat him up.
Talk to Musa
To talk to Musa, you need to distract the patrolman standing next to the healer's tent. You can ask Katerina for help, simultaneously solving the problem with her stalker, or distract the guard yourself. If you choose the second method, fast forward to night and wait for the patrolman to approach the road. Then throw some stones in the opposite direction and quietly sneak to Musa. Once the dialogue begins, there's nothing to worry about. Even if the guard notices you after the conversation, he will simply kick the hero out of the tent.
In the dialogue with Musa, exhaust all options and pass skill checks if possible. Two additional tasks will appear.
Examine Chertan's Body
Since there's a guard at the main entrance to the tent, just go around it from Musa's tent side or from the entrance to the main part of the camp. There's also a patrolman here, but it's quite easy to slip past him. Examine all parts of the body and remember the main signs: rash, vomiting, convulsions.
Read the Book About Poisons
Next to Chertan's corpse, there is a chest with a complex lock. Pick it and take all useful items, as well as Musa's book on poisons. If you carefully read the description of each poison from this manuscript, only one poison fits the description: "Kiss of Death".
Investigate the Murder
Return to Musa and tell him that Chertan was poisoned with the "Kiss of Death". Several tents will appear on the map that you need to inspect. You can use your dog and the murderer's dagger found earlier — the dog will lead you to Stepan Vorona's tent.
- There will be a large sum of money in the chest (more than 1000 groschen, you can steal it at night).
- On the table, there are dishes with a rose scent.
- In the basket, there are oak logs.
- On the crate at the end of the tent, there are nails smeared with something.
There will be no doubt that Vorona first attacked Chertan and then poisoned him. But whether to accuse him is another question.
Should You Accuse Stepan Vorona or Grozav from Borumlaki
You will have two suspects to choose from: Stepan Vorona and Grozav from Borumlaki. But if you have been paying attention to the task, you already know under what circumstances Vorona decided to kill Chertan. This character also opposes King Sigismund, so he wanted to blow up the musket along with the gunpowder warehouse. So if you accuse him, you will lose a potential ally.
On the other hand, if you accuse Grozav from Borumlaki, you will eliminate the second commander in Sigismund's camp, weakening him. A little later in the story, you will be able to deal with Katz, the first captain. Thus, all the commanders will be killed, and you will receive the achievement "Hydra's Heads".
Prepare to Defend Musa at the Trial
You have enough evidence to accuse the characters, so all that's left is to choose whom you want to bring to trial. Be sure to review the previous section before making a final decision. Below we provide the ideal conversation options with the lord for the two suspects.
Accuse Grozav:
- Remain silent.
- "He had no reason to kill Chertan" (rhetoric check) or "He was with us during the brawl."
- "Lord Grozav from Borumlaki."
- "Grozav didn't want to repay Chertan's debts" (if you found the promissory note).
- "I found the promissory note."
- "Grozav poisoned the wine before our arrival."
- "Mention the found herbs" (first you need to go into Grozav's tent and study the herbs on the table).
Accuse Vorona:
- Remain silent.
- "He had no reason to kill Chertan" (rhetoric check) or "He was with us during the brawl."
- "Decurion Stepan Vorona."
- "Chertan caught Vorona when he wanted to set fire to the gunpowder warehouse."
- "Gunpowder was scattered all over the warehouse."
- "Vorona poisoned the wine while Musa wasn't looking."
- "You made the 'Kiss of Death' poison."
Inform Katerina that the Praguers are Leaving
Immediately after the trial, the task will update. Head to the bathhouse and tell your accomplice that it's the perfect time to organize an ambush.
Leave the Camp with Katz
Return to the centurion and say that you are ready to move out with the squad. A cutscene will start, after which you will need to kill the remaining enemies. Once done, examine the bodies and approach Katz. If you choose "Kill" and finish him off, you can earn the achievement "Hydra's Heads" (only if you previously accused centurion Grozav at the trial). Here you can also talk to Stepan Vorona, then approach Zizka and complete the quest.
