格斗游戏是一种视频游戏类型，模拟在有限空间内的近战格斗。格斗游戏中的角色数量较少，战斗场所称为“竞技场”。与“打败他们所有人”类型不同，格斗游戏的游戏过程侧重于竞争，而不是玩家之间的合作和行动协调。通常情况下，战斗是一对一的，即使在团队战斗中。在第二种情况下，角色可以根据玩家的意愿或在击倒时互相替换。
